
Like the other boards, OCR has to assess according to two assessment objectives (Table 1). Each of the three components (Table 2) is assessed via externally assessed written examination. Papers 1, 2 and 3 each have a 2-hour exam (1 and a quarter hours at AS) and are worth one-third of the qualification. You have to study all three components, and in paper 3 you choose one of five religions.
For AS on each paper you must answer two out of the three questions. For A2 on each paper you must answer three out of the four questions. All questions are in one part and will assess both AOs. For AO2 questions the trigger words used will include: ‘Discuss’, ‘Evaluate’, ‘Critically assess’.

Papers 1, 2 and 3 are similar in their requirements. In your responses, make sure you:
• analyse and evaluate aspects of, and approaches to, religion and belief, including their significance, influence and study
• demonstrate knowledge and understanding of religion and belief, including:
• knowledge and understanding of religious thought and teaching
• approaches to the study of religion and belief
• influence of beliefs, teachings and practices on individuals, societies and communities (paper 3 only)
• cause and significance of similarities and differences in belief, teaching and practice (paper 3 only)
